Windows Live Messenger, also known as MSN Messenger, was an instant messaging application developed by Microsoft. It was one of the most popular instant messaging platforms during the early 2000s.

Windows Live Messenger allowed users to send text messages, voice messages, and files to other users on the platform. It also supported video chat and online games, making it a popular platform for socializing and staying in touch with friends and family.

One of the key features of Windows Live Messenger was its integration with other Microsoft services, such as Hotmail and Windows Live Spaces. This allowed users to easily access and share content from these services within the Messenger application.

Windows Live Messenger also provided users with a range of customization options, such as the ability to change their display picture and status message, and to use custom emoticons and backgrounds. It also supported third-party plugins, which allowed users to add additional functionality to the application.

In 2013, Microsoft announced that it was discontinuing Windows Live Messenger, and encouraged users to migrate to Skype, another instant messaging and video chat application that was acquired by Microsoft in 2011. As of 2021, Windows Live Messenger is no longer available for download or use, and has been replaced by other messaging platforms.
